On 14 November 2023, His Excellency KHUON Phon Rattanak, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a courtesy call by His Excellency Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Ministry.
His Excellency KHUON Phon Rattanak began the conversation by congratulating Saudi Arabia for the successful hosting of the ASEAN-GCC Summit held in Riyadh on 20 October 2023. He also recalled the fruitful bilateral meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the ASEAN-GCC Summit on 20 October 2023 in Riyadh. In response, His Excellency Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy expressed his strong desire to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and other relevant ministries to further strengthen Cambodia-Saudi Arabia relations, building upon the good momentums from the recent bilateral meeting of the two leaders.
Both sides had a candid exchange of views on the existing bilateral relations and committed to fostering cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism and education. They also shared views on the need to work toward establishing the political consultation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia and a Joint Economic Commission between the two kingdoms which is an important platform for exploring new way of concrete actions to facilitate and foster the trade and economic cooperation.
His Excellency Secretary of State reiterated Cambodia’s readiness to provide all necessary facilitation and support for the opening of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Phnom Penh planned for next year.
Both sides stressed their strong commitment to continue enhancing cooperation both at bilateral and multilateral frameworks between the two countries. They also took the opportunity to exchange views on the current regional and international developments in the region and beyond.
