As the High Representative of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, delivered a statement at the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations on 28 September 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

In his statement, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined the following priorities to address the current global challenges: (1) the use of diplomacy and mediation to resolve conflicts and prevent their escalation, (2) sustainable peace can be achieved only through meaningful dialogue based on mutual respect, genuine goodwill, tolerance and a commitment to peaceful coexistence, (3) values multilateralism based on the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and international law, (4) supports the reform of the UN Security Council and global financial system; and strengthening multilevel global governance and (5)support reforms of peacekeeping operations and promote the agenda of Women, Peaceand Security and Youth, Peace and Security, and (6) opposes unilateral coercive measures that have a detrimental impact on ordinary citizens, especially the most vulnerable.

The Deputy Prime Minister also touched upon the implementation of the Pentagonal Strategy, which aims to build Cambodia into a vibrant and just society that thrives on lasting peace, political stability, good governance and respect for the rule of law. To achieve this objective, Cambodia will (1) give top priority to building its human capital to meet the demand of the digital age, (2) deepen economic diversification by developing key sectors, such as transportation and energy, (3) accelerate the development of e-government, a digital economy and society , and promote gender equality, a green and circular economy, and environmental protection.
