His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea receives courtesy call by Mr. David Verbiwski


On 13 November 2024, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affaires and International Cooperation, received courtesy call by Mr. David Verbiwski, Chargé d'Affaires of the Office of the Embassy of Canada in Phnom Penh.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Chenda Sophea and Chargé d'Affaires David touched on various aspects of bilateral issues and noted with satisfaction the remarkable development of the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Canada during the past years, particularly the decision of Canadian government to upgrade the Office in Phnom Penh to a full-fledged Canadian Embassy, following the fruitful talks between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Canadian Prime Minister the Hon. Justin Trudeau in Vientiane, Lao PDR in October this year.

 

While discussing the process for the upgrading of Canadia’s diplomatic representation His Excellency Chenda Sophea underlined that the event will mark another milestone in the relations and created more favorable conditions for strengthening the cooperation between the two countries. He assured the Chargé d'Affaires of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s full cooperation in this process.

 

During the Meeting, Mr. David also briefed His Excellency Chenda Sophea about Canada’s plan to dispatch Team Canada Trade Mission to Cambodia in 2025, to explore the opportunities for trade promotion. He also extended warm congratulations to Cambodia on its selection as the host country for the 2026 Francophonie Summit and expressed Canada’s full commitment to closely cooperating with Cambodia throughout the preparatory process, highlighting the shared values and enduring partnership within the Francophonie community.
