On July 28, 2022, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with H.E Mr. Jaques Pellet, Ambassador of France, Mr. Jost Kadel, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the German Embassy, and Mr. Czika Tihamer, Deputy Head of the EU Mission to Cambodia on a joint démarche Call to discuss issues related to the upcoming "8th World Congress Against  the Death Penalty" to be organized in November 2022 in Berlin, Germany. This Call was also attended by H.E. Mr. Kim Santepheap, Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice.

Cambodia already abolished the death penalty in its Constitution of 1989.
