I am truly touched by the cordial message of the Honorable Michael R. Pompeo, US Secretary of State, to the people of Cambodia on the occasion of the celebration of the 65th Anniversary of Cambodia’s independence. On behalf of the people and the Government I proudly serve, let me express my sincere thanks to him for his very kind wishes.

As in many countries around the world, the annual celebration of a nation’s independence is a reflection of its people's true attachment to their freedom and sovereignty. Like the great American nation, the Cambodian nation proudly cherishes its independence. For the many years to come, the Cambodian people intends to give its utmost priority to strengthen step by step its democratic foundation to ensure a peaceful, stable, prosperous, pluralist and just society.

The message of The Honorable Pompeo gives us a renewed hope that the United States of America will help the Cambodian people in this forward march all the while mindful and respectful of the spirit for Cambodia’s independence and sovereignty.
