On 21 October 2024, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a productive telephone conversation with His Excellency IWAYA Takeshi, the newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. During the call, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Ministerrenewed his congratulations on His Excellency IWAYA Takeshi’s appointment.  

The two Ministers engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the enduring friendly relationship and multifaceted cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their shared resolve to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled Japan’s significant contribution to Cambodia’s peace and reconstruction processand expressed gratitude to Japan for continuous assistance in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development. His Excellency IWAYA Takeshi expressed his commitment to further promote the existing excellent cooperation including in trade and investment, education, health, defense and security, demining, and connectivity.

The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
