His Excellency KHUON Phon Ratthanak and His Excellency Charles Hay co-chair the Second Round of Bilateral Consultations


On  7-8 November​ 2024, His Excellency KHUON Phon Rattanak, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and His Excellency Charles Hay, Director for Indo-Pacific of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, co-chaired the Second Round of Bilateral Consultations between the two Foreign Ministries in London, the United Kingdom. 

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the flourishing relations between Cambodia and the UK, highlighting significant advancements in the areas of politics, economics, trade, investment and development. They exchanged views on priority sectors, including high-level contacts, human resource development, education, culture, defense, and people-to-people exchanges while reaffirming their commitments to the key priority plans set for 2025, aimed at further promoting Cambodia-UK ties.

In addition, His Excellency Secretary of State met with Her Excellency Catherine West, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific. Both dignitaries reaffirmed commitments to deepen political and economic cooperation between Cambodia and the UK. A number of regional and global issues of mutual interest were also touched upon. 

On the sideline of the Bilateral Consultations, His Excellency Secretary of State attended the World Travel Market, where the Cambodia Tourism Board proudly showcased the Kingdom’s top tourist destinations and untapped tourism potential. His Excellency Secretary also met with Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, to explore potential avenues for educational cooperation, and he met with Cambodian students studying at the university. Lastly, His Excellency Secretary of State toured the Crisis Centre to gain insights about the UK's advanced crisis response system, which specializes in managing international emergencies affecting British citizens and interests worldwide.

On top of that, His Excellency Secretary was also invited to attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Cambodia's Ministry of Economy and Finance and the UK Export Credits Guarantee Department of the United Kingdom.

This round of successful Bilateral Consultations represents a steady and essential step forward in advancing cooperation for the reciprocal benefits of both countries.
