Cambodia and the Netherlands to Deepen Political and Economic Cooperation


On 13 November 2024, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a courtesy call by His Excellency Remco Johannes van Wiljngaarden, Ambassador of the Netherlands to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Ministry.

 

Both sides engaged in meaningful discussions, underscoring the longstanding bilateral relations between Cambodia and the Netherlands and reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening this relationship and to enhancing bilateral cooperation for the best interest of the two nations. They took note with deep satisfaction of the successful holding of the First Bilateral Consultation in The Hague last year and reaffirmed their dedication to the next round of this Bilateral Consultation in Cambodia next year.

 

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Cambodia’s strong focus on socio-economic development, welcoming investments of all scales from the Netherlands and reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to creating a favorable investment climate. He also shared insights on Cambodia’s development progress, including its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2029, as well as the Royal Government’s dedication to human capital development and technological advancement within its Pentagonal Strategy, which are the fundamental objectives in national development goals.

 

His Excellency Remco Johannes van Wiljngaarden emphasized the Netherlands’ commitment to encouraging Dutch businessmen to invest in Cambodia, especially in the fields of sustainable development and to contributing to the development priorities, especially through capacity building. Both sides also shared their views on regional and international issues of common concern.
