Commencement of the Training Course on «Economic Diplomacy: The making of economic and trade policy strategies»

On 18 October 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of Kingdom of Cambodia, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Singapore through the Embassy of Republic of Singapore in Cambodia, organized a one-week training course on «Economic Diplomacy: The making of economic and trade policy strategies» for 30 Cambodian government officials.

On behalf of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, H.E. Dr. Nhim Khemara, Secretary of State and the Head of EDCG, presided over this event, with over 40 participants. This training course aimed to provide participants with an enhanced knowledge of bilateral, multilateral and regional policy approaches via the World Trade Organization (WTO), ASEAN Economic Integration and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) as a step towards broader regional integration, to contribute to Cambodia’s economy and human capital development.

H.E. Secretary of State emphasized that human capital development is considered among the top priorities for the Royal Government of Cambodia and one of the most important reform efforts of the MFAIC. Evidently, the establishment of the National Institute for Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) has paved ways and offered new opportunities for Cambodian officials, not only diplomats, to boost their knowledge and capacity regarding diplomacy and foreign affairs. NIDIR will also serve as an essential instrument for the successful implementation of Cambodia’s economic diplomacy provided that human resource development is a key element of this newly adopted Strategy.
