The First Session of the Bilateral Consultation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Finland was conducted on 25 October 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and co-chaired by H.E.Dr. CHEM Widhya, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia and H.E. Mr. Jari Sinkari, Director General for the Americas and Asia of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

H.E. Dr. CHEM Widhya deeply thanked Finland for the valuable aid and assistance offered to Cambodia over the years and briefed about the political situation and economic development in Cambodia as well as about Cambodia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2022.

H.E. Mr. Jari Sinkari commended the effort of Cambodia to successfully host the 55th AMM and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh in early August 2022 and wished Cambodia greater success in hosting the upcoming 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, in November 2022.

Both sides noted with satisfaction of the existing good cooperation between the two countries and agreed that this bilateral consultation is the most effective and important mechanism that enables the two countries to further unlock and expand new potential areas of cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of common interest and concern.

At the end of the consultation, the two Heads of Delegations signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries. The Second Session of the Bilateral Consultation will be held in Helsinki.
