Deputy Prime Minister receives Her Excellency Roueida El Hage, the Country Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Cambodia


On 13 May 2024, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a courtesy call by Her Excellency Roueida El Hage. The meeting focused on the key areas of cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and OHCHR, including activities, roles and the previous achievements of OHCHR in Cambodia. 
 
His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Her Excellency Roueida El Hage expressed the appreciation of more than three decades of cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and OHCHR in Cambodia, which underscores the former’s stance on good cooperation with the United Nations mechanisms. 

During the meeting, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister spoke highly of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment in promoting and protecting human rights in Cambodia, as well as enhancing the International Cooperation on human rights through the ratification and adoption of the eight International Conventions of the nine International Conventions related to Human Rights. The Royal Government of Cambodia always attaches great importance to civic and political space and social-economic rights of Cambodian people.

Her Excellency Roueida El Hage expressed her deep gratitude for the close cooperation of the Royal Government of Cambodia. OHCHR will continue providing technical assistance to the Royal Government and Cambodian people and further strengthening its cooperation on promoting and protecting the rights of Cambodian people. 

At the end of the meeting, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister stated that Cambodia looks forward to working closely with the OHCHR and extending cooperation with OHCHR toward achieving the noble goal in the areas of human rights and democracy for Cambodia on the principle of equality, sovereignty of state and non-interference in the internal affairs of Cambodia.
