His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and His Excellency Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia sign an Exchange of Notes for the extension of Yen loan


On 6 September 2024, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and His Excellency Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia, signed an Exchange of Notes for the extension of Yen loan approximately JPY 7,988,000,000 (USD 55 million) to support the Phnom Penh City Transmission and Distribution System Expansion Project (Phase 2, Third Tranche). Initiated in 2015, this ongoing project aims at enhancing the stable supply of electricity in Phnom Penh by constructing vital transmission lines and substations. 

By ensuring a reliable electricity supply, the project is crucial for business operations and improving livelihoods, thusfostering economic growth and attracting investment. On behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, the Deputy Prime Minister, expresses gratitude to Japan for its continued Official Development Assistance (ODA), which significantly contributes to the country’s socio-economic development across various sectors as well as for dispatching experts to support the formulation of a Clean Energy Transition Roadmap, further reinforcing the partnership in achieving sustainable energy.
