His Excellency Secretary of State Chum Sounry hosts His Excellency Omar Kadiri for a courtesy call


His Excellency Chum Sounry, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the importance of the existing consultative mechanism between Cambodia and Morocco and the need to deepen cooperation in trade, economy, and tourism as he hosted His Excellency Omar Kadiri, Director of Asian and Oceania Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, for a courtesy call at the Ministry ahead of the 4th Round of Bilateral Consultations in Phnom Penh, set to take place on 6 December 2024.

 

The Secretary of State praised the growing friendly ties between the two Kingdoms and recalled the fruitful outcomes of the Official Visit to the Kingdom of Morocco by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in March 2023, during which the Air Services Agreement was signed.

 

Secretary of State Sounry expressed confidence that the upcoming 4th Session of Consultations between the two Foreign Ministries will give new impetus to the cooperation between the two Kingdoms. Director Kadiri expressed Morocco's willingness to deepen bilateral ties with Cambodia and shared the view on the need to enhance cooperation in trade and investment. He reaffirmed Morocco's strong support for Cambodia as the host of the 20th Francophone Summit in 2026, and also affirmed the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to engage constructively with ASEAN.

 

H.E. Sounry sought Morocco’s support for Cambodia’s candidacies for the Organizational Committee of the Peacebuilding Commission (OCPBC) for 2025-2026 and United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2028-2030, and expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support of Cambodia’s hosting of the 20th Francophonie Summit. Director Kadiri assured Morocco’s support to Cambodia’s candidatures in these two organizations. He also renewed Morocco’s “active support” to Cambodia’s candidature as observer of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Both sides shared the view to continue the existing cooperation on the international arena.
