From 7 to 11 July 2025, His Excellency Sun Sovanna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and National Correspondent of Cambodia to the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), welcomed the presence of Her Excellency Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the OIF, at the Cambodian National Pavilion during her visit to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
As the host country of the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026, Cambodia also showcased a performance of the traditional dance “Robam Choun Por” by a Cambodian artistic troupe in Japan, on the occasion of the “Francophone Evening of Osaka.”
Taking that opportunity, His Excellency Sun Sovanna also held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Council for the Promotion of Francophonie in Japan, led by Mr. Eduard van Kleunen, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Belgium in Japan, as well as members of the Francophone diplomatic corps, to discuss the situation of French speakers and Francophone activities in Japan — notably to inform them about Cambodia’s ongoing preparations for hosting the Francophonie Summit and the side events scheduled for 2026.
